Kryolan Blood Powder is a professional SFX product designed to create sudden, realistic bleeding effects on cue. Applied dry to the skin, the fine powder is virtually invisible until it comes into contact with moisture, instantly transforming into a fresh-looking blood effect.
Perfect for film, TV, theatre, casualty simulation, Halloween and special effects makeup, it’s particularly useful for creating wounds that appear to start bleeding during a scene or performance.
Apply a thin, even layer of Blood Powder to clean, dry skin using a powder puff or brush.
The powder remains almost invisible while dry.
To activate the effect, introduce moisture to the powdered area. Kryolan recommends using a wet medium such as diluted transparent jelly or glycerin diluted with water. When the damp object or surface comes into contact with the Blood Powder, the colour activates and creates the appearance of fresh blood.
The amount of liquid used will affect how much blood appears, giving you control over the final effect.

For a controlled wound effect, apply the powder only where you want the blood to appear, then activate that exact area with your chosen wet medium.
Because Blood Powder contains soluble colouring agents, it may permanently stain fabrics and can be difficult to remove from some surfaces. Kryolan also recommends protecting the skin with a suitable greasepaint barrier before application where staining is a concern.
