High matt rust paint that simulates atmospheric oxidisation of aged metals. Water soluble to easily tone back effects for the perfect result. (Take a look at the images at the bottom of this page)
The dark coloured liquid dries to a high matt rust colour in 1 to 5 minutes depending on the temperature. Apply rust paint by brush or airbrush/sprayer. Rust effect paint looks best when applied to rough, textured surfaces. We used to sell this product under the brand name “Modelmates” Rust Effect – its the same product but now with Dirty Down on the label.

The review demonstrates our old Modelmates rust products. Dirty Down rust paint is the same product as the Modelmates Normal Rust Effect shown in the review, just re-branded as Dirty Down. At the moment we are not producing Dark or Light shade rust, just Normal Rust Effect.
Thanks to Roman at Massive Voodoo for kindly allowing us to show these images.

This is our (very) basic rust paint demonstration. We took these images just to demonstrate how the product works. Much better rust effects can be obtained with a little practice.
One coat of rust paint is drying. The dark coloured liquid dries to a high matt rust colour in 1 to 5 minutes depending on the temperature. The colour forms faster if the paint and the surface it is being applied to are warm.
Add an extra coat if a darker shade is required. Allow each coat to fully dry before applying another. Any number of coats of rust paint can be applied over the top of each other. For a broken, patchy effect apply to small areas/patches at a time and allow to dry – more in some areas, less in others. Also, the shade will vary depending on the quantity applied. A thick coat of paint will dry a darker shade, and a thin coat of paint will dry a lighter shade.
When dry, wipe some of the rust effect off using a slightly damp stiff brush or a damp tissue. In the image a stiff brush has been used.
Rust paint has been removed from some areas creating a more realistic rusty effect. More rust paint can be removed if desired, so that only the smallest amounts are left trapped in grooves and indents. In fact all of the rust paint can be completely washed off most plastic surfaces. When dry, avoid scuffing/scratching the finished paintwork.
